Everyone wants to be good at something, from sports to smarts, there are many things in between to choose from. I've tested my skills in art, photography, soccer, basketball, choir, and much much more. I just can't seem to find one that can make people say.
"Diggy Whiz, oh yeah, he's that guy who is good at ______."
Well, I have always loved Music! Listening to music is probably my favorite thing to do! I listen to a lot of different genres, but they way I define what I truly like to listen to is easy. "I like anything that someone took time and put their heart into to make it....besides country :)." "Well then Diggy, why not make your own music!" you might say. truth is, I've never been good at any musical medium. I tried piano in elementary school, but my teacher was to mean. I tried band in middle school, but I ended up being last chair saxophone. Then I attempted choir in high school, but I always found myself out of harmony. For two years I was afraid to try any form of music.
I started hanging out with people who liked the same music as I do, but they all could play instruments. One could play guitar, bass, MPC 2000, and even create his own music. Another played guitar, sang, and could freestyle with a smooth flow. But me, what was I to do.
My love for music has blessed me with the hobby of collecting vinyl records. My collection ranges from original pressing unopened Beatles albums, to Rap singles, and even some sound effect albums. I had the pleasure of buying my first record player 4 years ago for $14 at an antique shop in Buffalo, Wyoming. It was about the size of a shoebox but it was fully functional with all size vinyls. I remember the first time I used it. I put some Magical Mystery Tour on and just listened. Four years later I found myself listening and think again .Thats when it came to me! Scratching! I thought it would be interesting to try, so I brought it up with my friend you may know him as "Polyphone". He  supported and also helped brainstorm the idea. Telling me everything I would need and even hooked me up with a mixer. He brought over a record titled "Journey To The Moon" and when I heard my first attempts on my new instrument, I knew it was going to work out better then my previous attempts.

I'm still working on my technique today and working hard to get better and better.
hopefully you can catch a performance Coming Soon!

Open Your Mouth

I kept saying to myself ,"Diggy, Relax, your not  dumb."

I don't know why, but for as long as I remember, I've always been afraid of talking in front of people. Big groups, small groups, and even my friends. I can recall in 7th grade when I was required to give a speech to my history class. I chose the german soccer player Franz Beckenbauer because he was one of my long time idols. I did all the research I possibly could, with this vision in my head that I was going to talk for hours on end about my topic. My dream didn't go as I had planned. I stepped up to the podium, got through the first couple of lines, looked up at my quiet audience, and suddenly froze.  I remember asking myself (and I still do this today), "Diggy, Talk, You know what to say!" I could feel my face getting warm and my legs becoming weak. "And now you know more about Mr. Franz Beckenbauer." I had only read about 2 facts before ending my speech way below the time limit.

Now I'm 18 years old, and I should be able to give a speech without having a panic attack. Well, last friday I had the chance to test my skills. I was going to be speaking with two of my potential college professors about a possible art scholarship. Remembering 7th grade, I decided to come up with a plan to hopefully impress them and not ruin my chances. Here was my Plan

Step 1: Don't think about what I'm going to say and pretend its just a normal conversation.
Oh Yeah, and be completely, 100%, Diggy Whiz.
...
Thats It.
I went into the photography room with the professors, laid out all of my favorite creations, and Then the Q and A Began. They would ask me a question about one of the pieces, and I would return with my answer. Easy, but not for long. The questions started gettng slightly more complicated, but surprisingly I kept on answering with without making myself look stupid.
Before I knew it, things were coming to and end. He reached out to shake my hand and told me "It was a pleasure talking with you," and that he was "IMPRESSED with what I had to show." I packed up, thanked them again, and walked through the underground tunnel system with a big smile on my face. I had just done exactly what I had dreamed to do in 7th grade.

I know this was a really silly issue I had, But conquering my fear made me feel really good inside.    :|

Hopefully I will receive good news from them in the future, but for now I will just have to wait...
